Karen Khachanov and Nikoloz Basilashvili have played 3 times before, with Karen Khachanov leading the head to head 2-1. However, to be able to get into that position time and time again is a big ask, and Khachanov will likely clinch out the win in three to book himself a spot in the next round at the 2021 Indian Wells Open. In order for Basilashvili to get the win, he will have to try and get into a lot of backhand exchanges crosscourt, as he has a really good two-hander, and would surely dominate Khachanov in those rallies. He is not someone who you should be giving time to, as when he gets enough of it, he will play a huge ball, and play that aggressive game that players fear. While he did get it together eventually, his serving was not too consistent, and if he’ll be hitting a lot of second serves, he’ll be giving Khachanov time. He dropped a set to an opponent who did play well, but still not someone who he should have dropped a set to. Nikoloz Basilashvili got through a tough one to play Karen Khachanov for a spot in the next round. I think Khachanov will grab the win and move through to the quarterfinals at the 2021 Indian Wells Open. Khachanov has a good shot to win it, if he can serve as well as he did today, he can get it done in two, however, Basilashvili plays really well at his best, and Khachanov is not exactly known for keeping a consistent level, so I definitely feel like the match will go the distance, but ultimately just due to the level they showed in their respective matches. It won’t be easy against Basilashvili, who also has a big game, playing somewhat like Alexander Zverev, just not as high of a level. He served great, and even managed to return really well, playing that aggressive and big game from the back of the court.
